Alex ‘alexd2’ Dimitrov wion the August MPLB and his fifth Triple Crown

Bulgaria’s Aleks ‘alexd2’ Dimitrov has been tearing things up this year and recently climbed up to third place in the PocketFives Worldwide Rankings, his all-time high.

Last month was a particularly good month for Dimitrov, as he won the August Monthly Points Leaderboard with 3,016.82 points despite playing for less than 10 days during the month.

Dimitrov was in shock after he learned that he nailed down the best month.

“Did I win the monthly PLB for real?” Dimitrov asked.

It seems the key for the Bulgarian is to play less and go on holiday more.

“I was actually on a holiday the whole month and played six or seven days in total. That’s just sick,” said Dimitrov.

The Bulgarian’s month began with a bang as in the first week he nailed down wins in the in the PokerStars $22 Mini Supersonic $65K Guaranteed for over $11,000 and in the 888poker Sunday $20,000 Tornado for almost $6,000.

The following weekend was even bigger as he took down the partypoker Heavyweight: The Main Event – $150,000 Guaranteed for a cool $24,000. This win also wrapped up Dimitrov’s fifth PocketFives Triple Crown.

Dimitrov might value Triple Crowns more than the winning the MPLB, and almost grabbed another one at the end of the month.

“Of course I feel great about winning every Triple Crown I got and I like hunting them down,” Dimitrov said. “I actually missed one more in August because I lost the final tournament while playing heads-up.”

Dimitrov’s two wins at the end of the month may not have been good enough for his sixth Triple Crown, but they helped him secure the MPLB and were his biggest of the month. On August 28, he shipped the PokerStars $215 Sunday Supersonic $150,000 Guaranteed for over $29,000 while also winning the partypoker High Roller: $100,000 Guaranteed for over $25,000.

While winning his first MPLB was special to Dmitrov, he has his eyes on bigger and better things in September with the World Championship of Online Poker taking place on PokerStars bringing out all of poker’s superstars.

It will be of a lot more important to me if I win the September PLB because I know every damn good reg is out there playing now,” said Dmitrov.

The Bulgarian, who now has almost $2.2 million in online poker cashes, also has his sights set on a podium finish in one Sunday Major in particular before the year is up.

“I think I have achieved most of my poker goals until the end of the year already, so one more goal I could think of is the ‘forever’ goal to finish in the top three in Sunday Million,” said Dimitrov.

Almost 500 points behind Dimitrov in the monthly race was former number one ranked player Andreas ‘r4ndom4gs’ Berggren with 2,522.97 points. Unlike Dimitrov, Berggren’s run in August was more of a grind. The Swede, who recently passed $7 million in online tournament cashes in his career, racked up the points in August despite not nailing down a single five-digit cash.

Just behind Berggren was United Kingdom’s Phillip ‘philroyal888’ Mighall with 2,411.29 points. Mighall is already off to a stellar start in September notching a win in the PokerStars Omania High Roller: $320 PLO8 $30K Guaranteed for almost $12,000.
