For the second time in 2019, Daniel Negreanu sold some of his World Series of Poker action to fans and followers, only this time it was for the WSOP Europe festival as Negreanu raced to capture the WSOP Player of the Year award. As it would turn out, Negreanu won WSOP Player of the Year, earning the title for the third time in his illustrious career, but he did not come away a winner on poker’s ultimate scoreboard.

Did Negreanu Win or Lose at the 2019 WSOP Europe?

EVENTS BUY-INS CASHES WINNINGS ROI
14 $373,010 7 $167,751.10 -55.03%

At the 2019 WSOP Europe festival in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, Negreanu competed in 14 events. Some of those events he fired more than one bullet in, and at the end of it all his buy-ins had amounted to $373,010. Negreanu cashed for $167,751.10, which equated to a loss of $205,258.90 and a return on investment of -55.03%.

Of the 14 WSOP Europe tournaments he played, Negreanu fired multiple entries in eight of them. His largest single spend was in the €100,000 Diamond High Roller. In that event, he entered twice and spent a total of €200,000 ($220,000). In terms of multiples of buy-ins, Negreanu took the most shots in the final event of the series, the €550 Colossus. In that event, he blasted 15 entries. But, what he did in the €550 Colossus was finish 195th for €2,036 and, likely more importantly, 103.3 points in the WSOP Player of the Year race.

Of the big cashes Negreanu was able to land at WSOP Europe, he finished 16th in the €25,500 Short Deck High Roller for €39,943 ($43,937), 10th in the €25,500 Platinum High Roller for €48,929 ($53,821), and sixth in the €25,500 Mixed Games Championship for €54,287 ($59,715).

Although those who invested in Negreanu’s action took a loss, the loss was likely outweighed by the opportunity offered to have a stake in Negreanu and a true sweat right alongside him during these events. People who invested a $25 stake saw $17.52 come back. Those who invested $100, saw $70.09 returned. If you bought $500 worth of action, you got back $350.46. If you had $1,000 invested, you got back $700.92.

If you recall, Negreanu also offered shares to be had in his 2019 WSOP events in Las Vegas this past summer. For those events, he broke his schedule up into three tiers: Low, Mid, and High. Although his Low Package saw a loss of $23,466.60, which was a -48.08% ROI, investments in the Mid and High won big. In the Mid Package, he profited $105,379.52 for an ROI of 56.59%. In the High Package, he scored $1,200,838 in the black for a winning ROI of 228.73%. He cashed for a total of $2,042,752.92 at the summer’s WSOP, good for an ROI of 178.78%.

His profit on these events tallied in at $1,077,492.02, and that’s good for an overall ROI of 95.1% for Negreanu across all 2019 WSOP tournaments.

Negreanu biggest 2019 WSOP result was a second-place finish in the $100,000 Super High Roller in Las Vegas. In that event, he cashed for $1,725,838. This result alone could have produced a winning WSOP year for Negreanu.

In poker, you’re not always going to win and you’re not always going to lose. But having the chance to sweat alongside one of poker’s greatest players and actually have some skin in the game in tournaments that have millions of dollars on the line, no matter how small a percentage of action, is a treat we hope Negreanu continues to offer. The combination of selling shares and producing daily vlogs along the journey provides tremendous entertainment value to fans and followers across the globe and makes it feel as though you’re right there, playing the same hands he is.
