Brazil’s Joao ‘joaomathias’ Mathias is within 33 points of being the top player in the PocketFives Rankings

Two players who have spent time as the #1 ranked player on PocketFives are duking it out for the title of top dog on PocketFives. Your combatants: Sweden’s ‘C Darwin2‘, who has been ranked #1 since early July, and Brazil’s Joao ‘joaomathias’ Mathias, just 33 PLB Points off the lead.

‘C Darwin2’ continues to churn out results and preserve his perch atop the PocketFives Rankings. He won the partypoker High Roller on August 4 for $14,000 and 247 PLB Points. A week earlier, he won Winamax’s version of the High Roller for $8,500. He’s at 66 career online tournament wins and is approaching $4.5 million in career cashes.

Mathias is up five spots this week to #2 and is searching for his second stint ever at #1. His first reign as the #1 online poker player in the world came in January 2015. On Sunday, he final tabled the PokerStars Sunday Million for $12,000 and, last week, he won the site’s Super Tuesday for a massive haul of $75,000 and 643 PLB Points.

Mathias has 265 career wins in tournaments tracked by PocketFives – more than the number of top-three finishes his Swedish foe has – and owns $8.1 million in winnings over the years. He’s a five-time PocketFives Triple Crown winner and #1 in his homeland of Brazil.

The top 10 saw very little movement other than Mathias’ five-spot ascent. Outside of that group, Shyam ‘s_dot111’ Srinivasan is up 12 spots to return to the top 20 at #19. He finished second to Mathias in last week’s Super Tuesday for $55,000, one of three runner-up finishes he’s turned in already in August. Srinivasan just passed $9 million in career winnings and was ranked as high as #4 in the world five years ago.

Argentina’s Cristian ‘progre69’ Sampaoli ticked up 12 spots to #35. This month, he’s won the PokerStars Hot $109 and finished second in the partypoker High Roller for almost $40,000 combined and is inching his way toward $2 million in career winnings. This is the highest he has ever been ranked on PocketFives and he’s the top-ranked player in the South American country.

The highest-ranked newcomer to the top 100 this week was ‘ekziter‘, who can now be found at #42. He was once as high as #6 and in the first 10 days of August, ‘ekziter’ finished second in the PokerStars Omania High Roller, won a $320 No Limit Hold’em Six Max, and final tabled the Sunday Million. Those three scores were worth about $35,000 combined. And on Sunday, he took fifth in the 888 Whale.

Bracelet winner Martin ‘Tiny_molester’ Kozlov moved up 20 spots this week

Australia’s Martin ‘Tiny_molester’ Kozlov moved up 20 positions on the worldwide leaderboard to #67. This former #2-ranked player took third in the 888 Mega Deep over the weekend for $13,000 and won the site’s Tuesday Crocodile for $5,900 last week. Kozlov is the #2 player in Australia and is about to hit $3 million in career winnings. He earned his first World Series of Poker bracelet this year.

Denmark’s ‘x_zola25‘ reentered the top 100 at #79. He was ranked as high as #9 in the world last year and is now making a run thanks in part to dual wins on Sunday in the partypoker Heavyweight Drago and PokerStars Big $215. He final tabled the partypoker Super High Roller on the final day of July as well and he’s the #3-ranked player in Denmark.

Finally, Vicente ‘vicenfish’ Delgado Zamorano reappeared in the top 100 at #85. He was the runner-up in the Sunday Warm-Up over the weekend for $38,000 and turned in three tracked wins in the last three days of July. Zamorano is the #10-ranked player in the UK.
