Michiel Brummelhuis grabbed a SCOOP title on Saturday (WPT photo)

Michiel ‘treg’ Brummelhuis was the big winner on the first Saturday of the 2018 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker series after he defeated Austria’s Linus ‘LLinusLLove’ Loeliger to earn $194,883.

Event #21 (High) saw 552 entrants create a $1,104,000 prize pool after they all stumped up the $2,100 buy-in. Once the final nine came together and the play resumed PocketFivers ‘skyboy69‘, and Andrei ‘ragaaaila19’ Boghean was eliminated in eighth and sixth place, and took away $24,976 and $44,921 respectively. Ben ‘Ben86’ Tollerene, who won the PokerStars $2,100 High Roller last Sunday for $54,000, just missed out on the heads-up battle after he fell in third place for $108,354.

Dutchman Brummelhuis, who finished in seventh place at the 2013 WSOP Main Event for $1,225,356, was able to find a way to send Loeliger to the rail in second-place for $145,314 and earnt himself a $194,883 payday alongside a coveted SCOOP title.

‘KMasalskas’ prevented ‘alberto.m7’ from earning a second SCOOP title of the series in Event #21 (Medium) after the players had agreed to a heads-up deal. ‘alberto.m7’, who took down Event #12 (High) earlier this week, agreed to a deal with ‘KMasalskas’ before eventually falling in second-place for $76,335. ‘KMasalskas’s win earnt them $89,839 and a title of their very own.

In Event #21 (Low), ‘pl@ta0plomo’ outlasted 16,808 other entrants and turned $22 into $36,434, after winning a heads-up battle against ‘FeelTh3Power‘, who took away $26,186 for second place.

The UK’s Michael ‘mczhang’ Zhang took his online tournament earnings over the $1m mark after seeing off Finland’s Tomi ‘elmerixx‘ Brouk in Event #22 (High). Linus “LLinusLLove” Loeliger made his second SCOOP final table appearance of the day but departed in sixth place before Phill ‘Grindation’ Mcallister exited in fourth place for $24,960. ‘SwalzB’ won $35,880 in third as Zhang and Brouk went to battle for the title. Brouk, who is one-third of the ‘BITB’ staking main coaching team alongside Patrick Leonard and Samuel Vousden, was the final player to depart the field and picked up the runners-up score of $47,892. Zhang continued his excellent 2018 form to add the title to his honours list as well as $68,640 to his bankroll.

Event #22 (Medium) saw Canada’s Jonas ‘donut604’ Mackoff outlast Francisco ‘chicalltreta’ Correia to win $31,233, on a final table that featured ‘TiltzPhil‘, Igor ‘Giopires21’ Peredo and Vicente ‘vicenfish’ Delgado. After Mackoff and Correia made it to heads-up play, it was the Canadian who got the better of the Brazilian to earn his second SCOOP title in as many years.

In Event #22 (Low), ‘Zlushchiy’ picked up the first-place prize of $11,921 after coming through the 4,585 field and defeating ‘jayme1987‘ into second place for $8,711.

Jerry ‘hummylun’ Wong went the distance in Event #27 (High) to earn a second career SCOOP title and the first-place prize of $86,046. Their win comes just days after taking the bronze medal in Event #9 (Medium). The other two Event #27 Six Max PKO Turbo tournaments were won by ‘JoeGall‘, who took away $44,569 for victory in the ‘Medium’, and ‘MR.BUMFLUFF’ who banked $10,301 for coming through the enormous 20,749 player field in the ‘Low’.

The final event of Day 7 saw three eight-max PLO8 tournaments take place as ‘1bloodflood‘ claimed a win in the ‘Low’ for $4,964. ‘Dorination’ saw off two-time SCOOP winner ‘lukro8‘ for the title and $14,574 in the (Medium), and ‘fers223’ was named the ‘High’ champion for $35,684 after they defeated former no.#1 ranked Brian ‘brianm15’ England heads-up.
