Two more thrilling events took place in London as the Triton Poker Series saw the 2022 WSOP Main Event champion Espen Jorstad and the German high roller Ole Schemion both scoop titles as Phil Ivey fell just short of glory. Taking place at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel in London, the third and fifth events of the series (there is no Event #4 on the schedule) saw plenty of drama as PokerStake investors in Jorstad in particular celebrated.

Jorstad Wins Mystery Bounty Event, Straver Scoops Top Prize

A thrilling Triton Poker Series Mystery Bounty Event #3 saw Norwegian former WSOP Main Event winner Espen Jorstad beat Phil Ivey to the title and his first-ever Triton crown. Jorstad, who won the 2022 World Championship in Las Vegas only last summer, took home the top prize of $639,000 in the $40,000-entry vent, which saw 133 entries in total.

Belarussian player Aliaksei Boika was the first man to bust as he ran ace-four into Phil Ivey’s queen-eight, with Ivey pairing his eight on the river to scoop an early elimination. Ivey busted the next victim too, taking out Canadian player Daniel Dvoress to see him exit for $149,000 just minutes after Boika had headed to the cash desk to rake in $111,500.

Ivey’s fellow American Eric Wasserson lost with pocket kings, as Dutch player Johannes Straver’s pocket aces prevailed, sending the former home with $190,000 before Straver went from leading at the dinner break to busting just after dessert. The Dutchman lost a chunk with ace-nine to Jorstad’s ace-four, a four on the turn not helping the chip leader, before his pocket nines fell to Ivey’s pocket jacks to see him bust in fourth place for $236,500.

Stephen Chidwick dominated three-handed play for some time, but Jorstad, who at one stage was down to just three big blinds, came right back and would eventually win with aces against the British player’s ace-king to fatally damage his stack. Chidwick exit in third for $287,000 gave Jorstad a chance against the previously dominant Ivey and the Norwegian took it, edging into a heads-up lead from initially trailing before winning with king-jack against Ivey’s dominated king-deuce.

A day after Jorstad claimed the $639,000 top prize, he saw Dutch player Straver win the bulk of the big bounties but didn’t care, ecstatic with the landmark win against a bona fide poker hero.

“Playing heads up against Ivey, the biggest legend of the game in my opinion, just makes it even more special; the three-way was the craziest three-way I’ve ever played!” Jorstad said after taking the title. “I’m extremely grateful for all the run good I’ve had on the last three years. It’s insane!”

Schemion Scores Debut Triton Title After Capital Gains

German crusher Ole Schemion won Event #5 on the TPS schedule and with no Event #4, it was the very next event after the Mystery Bounty title was taken by Jorstad. Schemion, whose high roller prowess is without doubt, won $1.35 million after conquering the $50,000-entry NLHE 8-Max Event #5, as he beat Vietnamese player Dao Minh Phu heads-up for the title. With nine players starting the final, it was another oriental superpower, Danny Tang, who busted in ninth place, as the England-based Hong Kong player busted first in the final showdown, earning $134,000.

Next to go was New Zealand player David Yan, who fell short of adding a Triton Poker Series win to recent GG MILLION$ victories in the online sphere. Schemion’s destruction of the Kiwi’s hopes was his third elimination inside ten brutal hands. Yan’s cash of $173,000 in eighth was followed by another six-figure finish for consistently brilliant Argentinian professional Nacho Barbero. The poker stalwart’s 2023 resurgence has been nothing short of phenomenal and his cash for $235,000 was nothing to be sniffed at.

Schemion’s fellow German Leon Sturm busted in sixth place for $313,000 before Canadian Jamil Wakil cashed for $400,000 in fifth place. Four-handed, the Turkish player Orpen Kisacikoglu was unable to survive, instead losing out with ace-king crashing to Schemion’s pocket deuces just outside the podium places, winning $497,000 in the process. Spanish player Roberto Perez also fell short, busting in third for $604,000 with king-queen dominated and defeated by Schemion’s ace-king, before Schemion got the better of his heads-up opponent Phu.

“It was a fun final table,” Schemion told Ali Nejad after securing victory. “I had a really good feeling from the start. It’s a really nice experience; nice tournaments, nice fields, a lot of fun to play. Nice people.”

Schemion has always been great people, winning or losing. He does a lot more winning.

Jorstad Selling Action to Event #9, Other Big Hitters Up for Grabs

After making his investors money in Event #3, Norwegian former world champion Espen Jorstad is wasting no time in re-upping his action. The 2022 Main Event winner is selling action to his invitational entry of $262,500 in Event #9, and so far, just under 1% of the 10% that is for sale is sold.
