Niklas Astedt picked up a WPT Online title and $174K on Sunday (PokerStars Photo)

Niklas Astedt is one of the most successful online poker tournament players in history. Astedt has held down the #1 ranking on PocketFives 10 times in his career for a total of 85 weeks. On Sunday, the Swedish poker pro earned the sixth-largest cash of his career by winning Event #15 ($1,050 Weekender) of the World Poker Tour Online series.

Astedt made his way through 117 other players before beating a final table that included Jens Lakemeier, Stefan Schillhabel, Manig Loeser, and eventual runner-up Tyler Goatcher. Astedt won $174,751.50 while Goatcher had to settle for $124,333. Sonny Franco came in third for $83,508.70.

Matthew Wilkins earned the victory in Event #15 Mini ($109 Weekender) and pocketed $63,285.54.

Astedt was the biggest winner on a day but there was a total of six WPT Online titles were awarded and the WPT Online Championship had a strong turnout for its opening Day 1 flight.

Event #18 ($3,200 Pot Limit Omaha) had 128 Entries to created a $384,000 Prize Pool. Jacob Carl Schindler outlasted all of them to win the event and earn $96,731.94. Runner-up Mads Amot banked $65,280 for falling one spot short of a title while Espen Myrmo fell two spots short and earned $46,080.

Rui Ferreira won Event #18 Mini ($320 Pot Limit Omaha) for $22,560.10

Viktor Ustimov defeated Robin Andreas Berggren heads-up to win Event #21 ($1,050 Mix-Max Turbo Bounty) for a total of just north of $60,000. Ustimov took $26,909.02 from the prize pool and then another $35,195.33 in bounties. Berggren took home $26,876.26 and $1,875 in bounties. A few days removed from winning a PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker title, Lucas Reeves narrowly missed out on a WPT Online title by finishing third for $19,397.91 and $5,007.81 in bounties.

Adrian-Sorel State topped the 1,935-entry field in Event #21 Mini ($109 Mix-Max Turbo Bounty) to bank $11,422.11 and another $7,448.35 in bounties.

The first of four WPT Main Event starting flights drew 808 entries to create a $2,424,000 prize pool. The event has a $5,000,000 guarantee which should be easily accomplished with Day 1B next Sunday, 1C and 1D next Monday. Abdelhakim Zoufri turned his 40,000 starting stack into 791,877 to bag the chip lead. Kevin Macdonald (668,081), and Julie Ribiero (590,228) rounded out the top three stacks.

The WPT500 Day had its eight starting flight on Sunday with Ezequiel Waigel accumulating 435,201 chips to take into Day 2 on Monday. The flight had 696 runners to push the total field to date to 3,816 entries with the final two starting flights on Monday.
